Lego Star Wars 7181 TIE Interceptor Ultimate Collector Series from “Return of the Jedi” is a TIE series starfighter utilized by the Galactic Empire. It was one of the fastest starfighters in the galaxy during the time. The TIE Interceptor’s arrow shape solar collector panels gave it a dagger like appearance, distinctly different from the hexagonal array of its predecessor. Most TIEs including the Interceptor shared the same cockpits; drive pods and wing brace design. The length of the solar collector panels were increased and angled, and the front section of the hull removed. This new design provided the pilot with increased visibility and thus reducing its profile made targeting difficult for enemy gunners. The original TIE Interceptor came with four L-s9.3 laser cannons installed on each wingtip, and twin mounted laser cannons remained on the chin section of the cockpit module. Advanced targeting software installed allowed for greater accuracy during complex maneuvers. The TIE Interceptor similar to its predecessors lacked heavier armor plating, deflector shields, hyperdrive and life support systems. The pilots relied on speed, maneuverability, deployment in great numbers and advanced weapon systems to prevail in space superiority. However, without hyperdrive the TIE Interceptor was vulnerable and dependent on capital ships like the Star Destroyer for base operations. Regardless of these shortcomings, the TIE Interceptor’s menacing appearances, validated the Empire’s reputation to rule through fear.
