BrickWars Sets Description
Lego 7956 Ewok Attack was featured in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. Rebel ground forces attacked the Imperial shield generator on the forest moon of Endor, as with its destruction, the Rebel fleet above would be able to destroy the Death Star. The locals of the moon, the Ewoks, helped the Rebels fight the Imperials. Through unconventional methods and clever, yet primitive contraptions, the Ewoks were able to contribute a significant amount to the battle. From knocking biker scout troopers off of their speeders to smashing AT-STs, the Ewoks are not to be trifled with.
The Lego 7956 Ewok Attack contains 166 pieces and includes 3 minifigures.

Pro's:
- First small Ewok set since 2002 (7139 Ewok Attack).
- Nice mid-sized set, and includes a good and bad side.
- Has good and bad guys each with their own vehicle or base to ride/use.
Con's:
- Overpriced (as are other sets this year) at $0.15 per brick.
- Only the speeder bike represents something in the actual movie.
This new Ewok attack is a nice set but the 2002 set contains more items seen in the film than this set does.
The updated speeder bike is similar to those of the original trilogy era seen in other sets of the last few years which uses a trike motorcycle rear end for much of the bike. This newer design is one which I don't like. The older speeder bike designs were more like the small light speeder bikes seen in the films.
The Ewok "tree" in this is nice, and seems to be an attempt to combine a few Ewok weapons into one (the logs to trip walkers, the catapult, the swinging logs to crush or ram with), but in the attempt to cram so much into the tree I think it lost on the overall end product.
The logs are nice but there is no walker to trip with them, and no walker separately sold unless you have one of the ones made years ago. The catapult is small and looks nothing like the catapult seen in the movie (which wasn't up in a tree). The catapults in 7139 Ewok Attack and 8038 The Battle of Endor were more like what was seen in the movie. The log ram/crusher is a piece that slides through the tree trunk rather than being hung from the tree branches.
For some reason the Ewok tree is hinged and opens up so a rocket/missile can be fired from inside it. Ewoks didn't use rockets/missiles, they used primitive weapons. When closed the inside of the tree isn't even big enough to hold one of the Ewok mini-figures, it does hold their spear and bow weapons, but that is about it. With the set including a speeder bike maybe a trip wire between trees (to pull the rider off) would have been a better weapon system to include, and we've not seen a trip wire in an Ewok set yet.
Overall I give the set a 7 of 10. The pricing issue this year is the biggest factor and the attempt to put so much into a tree that was never seen in the movie brings down the quality/functionality of the biggest part of the set. |
