BrickWars Sets Description Lego 9495 Gold Leader's Y-Wing Starfighter was a BTL-A4 variant of the BTL Y-Wing starfighters. It was piloted by Jon Vander, who became Gold Leader prior to the Battle of Yavin. His variant of the Y-Wing could be flown with only a pilot. Unlike the BTL-S3, another variant, the turret over the cockpit did not require a gunner to be used; instead, it was often operated by an astromech droid. The BTL-A4 model had a much sturdier structure, but had weaker shields and less accurate ion cannons. These bombers were intended to destroy the first Death Star. When the Rebel pilots were informed that the exhaust port in the Death Star was only two meters wide, Gold Squadron, which comprised of Y-Wing starfighter/bomber pilots, was tasked with destroying the Death Star. During the battle, Gold Leader, along with pilots Gold Two and Gold Five, entered the trench leading up to the exhaust port. They were soon shot down my Darth Vader and two flanking TIE fighters. The task was passed on to Red Squadron. Luke Skywalker, piloting his X-Wing starfighter, accomplished it by using the force to send proton torpedoes into the exhaust port, destroying the Death Star.
The Lego 9495 Gold Leader's Y-Wing Starfighter contains 458 pieces and includes 3 minifigures.
